Change tastes great at Clavelshay!

Have you been to Clavelshay Barn yet? It’s no secret that it’s one of our favourite places to eat out in Somerset. Magically tucked away on a farm in the stunning Quantock Hills, it’s relaxed yet special, dog friendly so you can take your hounds with you and it’s had all the love and attention poured in to it that owner Sue Milverton has to give. This shows in the very heartbeat of the barn. Since discovering this Somerset gem last year, we’ve spent some brilliant times there

The Luttrell Arms - history, secrets & the best fish & chips!

We’ve been to Dunster Village twice now and both times we’ve been drawn to The Luttrell Arms – the historic hotel and coaching inn at the top of Dunster High Street. There’s something magical about the imposing stone entrance that tempts you inside to discover more... and both times we’ve also been flipping freezing, so the roar of the log fires has certainly shouted out to us, and to our dogs! :) Once you’re through the door, The Luttrell Arms is definitely more than meets t

The Ethicurean - local, beautiful, inspirational

The Ethicurean isn’t exactly a Somerset secret anymore. The restaurant’s received tons of accolades, Michel Roux Jr made a Summer visit here for Channel 4’s Hidden Restaurants and the guys (self-taught Chefs Matthew and Iain Pennington), have just launched their first pop-up residency - on the rooftop of Oxford’s Street’s John Lewis. Get ready for some stunning West Country flavours, London! ;) Anyway, with all that going on, you could say the word is most definitely out… but

Kitchen at the Wharf and a Langport walk

It’s official! :) Kitchen at The Wharf in Langport has just become our favourite dog friendly place for a lunchtime bite to eat, a gorgeous coffee and an even more gorgeous slice of homemade cake! Even if we didn’t have Petal (our pup), we’d go there regularly anyway - and it’s not difficult to see why. The café’s home is in the Warehouse at Great Bow Wharf, on the banks of the River Parrett. Originally built as a trading base for salt and corn, this awesome building has been

Loving the Roth!

Loving the Roth!

We're loving the Roth… and we don’t mean the lead singer of Van Halen! :) We mean the Roth Bar & Grill in Bruton. You can find it in the redesigned, beautifully renovated cowshed of Durslade Farm, in the landscaped grounds of art gallery Hauser & Wirth (a must on the list if you're visiting our beautiful county). Roth Bar & Grill is definitely Somerset cool and as it’s part of the arts centre, you’d expect contemporary art to be mixed with eating and drinking… and you’d be ri

Matt's Kitchen... our favourite place!

Happy. Full. A bit tipsy. It’s how we want to feel when we’ve just left our favourite restaurant… and Matt’s Kitchen in Bruton became exactly that on Wednesday. Well when you know, you just know! For us, it’s a unique little place that gets everything we love about eating out absolutely spot on: 1. A casual, effortless atmosphere We didn’t know what to expect behind the door of Matt’s. He’s got the 5-year celebratory window going on (for being open 5 years), and you can’t rea

Matt's Kitchen - Four Thoughts

On Wednesday we ate in Matt’s Kitchen in Bruton. It was ace. Cracking food. Great, relaxed atmosphere. It’ll be on the blog soon. To whet your appetite though (don’t worry - we’re not going to start dropping in tons of food refs/puns everywhere), we asked Matt four quick questions we thought you’d love to know the answers to. Here's what he had to say: 1. How did Matt's Kitchen start up? It was my (now) wife, Isabel’s idea. I was looking to have something more permanent after

Top-notch grub at The Talbot

If you like your pubs with huge amounts of character, in a beautiful village setting with glorious plates of food to satisfy even the pickiest of palates, you'll love the Talbot Inn! The Inn is at the heart of the little village of Mells - a truly beautiful spot in picturesque countryside - although by the time we arrived it was pitch black so we didn't see much of that! The sound of silence & the crisp chill in the January air was bliss though & as we walked across the cobbl
