The Somerset coolathon – 24 hours on the radio for very cool causes

Updated: Jan 21, 2020

We’re doing a 24 hour non-stop radio show at the weekend. I know. Who’s crazy idea was that eh?!! ;) Well, there’s a couple of reasons why it might not be as crazy as it sounds and they are the two causes we’re supporting whilst we do it.

The first is Somerset and Dorset Animal Rescue, who are currently helping to save dogs from the Chinese meat trade. When we heard about that, we just had to try and support them. The reality of the dog meat trade is unimaginably horrific and you might’ve seen our posts about the three dogs they’ve recently helped to rescue - Hope, Lotto (now Alfie) and little Daisy.

Despite being tortured for 'fun', Alfie is the sweetest waggy-tailed boy you could meet

Hope, a gentle but broken collie, is staying with us as a house guest since we met her at the Rescue last week.

And here's Daisy, who is blind and just wants to be loved, despite everything she's clearly been through. Daisy is looking for a forever home.

Daisy's safe at the Rescue & has the chance of a new life. Hopefully her future forever family might see this!

We’d love to save other dogs like Hope, Alfie and Daisy too and Liz and Colin who founded the Rescue, have worked tirelessly for 30 years to save over 34,000 animals and birds. You can read more about them on the blog here.

The second awesome cause we’re proud to support is Lurcher SOS, an amazing sighthound Rescue that's saved hundreds of sighthounds from abandonment, cruelty and death.

Lurcher SOS founder Laurie Harkness & some of the beautiful saved sighthounds

Founder Laurie Harkness and her small team rescued our beloved dogs Petal and Flower, along with many others... like beautiful Meg here, who was going to be shot by her then owner.

Beautiful Meg is now happily homed thanks to Lurcher SOS

Now happily rehomed, we want to help Lurcher SOS create more happy endings for dogs like Meg.

All gift aid goes to Frome FM too and if you fancy helping us help these genuinely amazing Rescues, you can click right here to DONATE:

And if you do, we’ve got a little something up our Somerset cool sleeves ;). We’re talking about our Acts of Kindness that you might've read a bit about on our Instagram and Twitter.
