A Somerset celebration of British wine

The sun is setting on 2021, a new year is on the horizon and we're gearing up for a uniquely Somerset celebration by sharing a chat with the maker of some of the county's beloved wines... that's Guy Smith of Smith and Evans. Guy, with his wife Laura, followed their dream of setting up a vineyard here, back in 2009.

Guy is now on the board of Wine GB, the industry body for the wine growers and producers of Great Britain. He is Chair of Wine GB West, a collective of over 90 vineyards in West England making world class wine, and I spoke with Guy for BBC Radio Somerset, to discover more about the rise of British wine, how Guy began making it and of course we had a little tasting, looking out over the vineyards in beautiful South Somerset, to mark the festive period.

I started our chat by asking Guy why he thinks Britain is becoming a renowned wine producer on the world stage…

A really interesting conversation there, especially if you're interested in wine making (and drinking!) and we'll be raising a glass to see in the New Year tonight!

Have a great one.
