Morning. Here’s a little update on Petal 🌸

We’re in week 6 of recovery now, and we had her first physio appointment yesterday.

The good news is she’s got really good movement in her neck.
The not so good news is that she does cry out at times - not at the physio but at home, so we’re trying to work out why.

We’ve got some simple exercises to do with her, designed for strength, and we’re building up to no painkillers and 3 walks around the garden a day.

We’ll scan her at the end of May to see how the bone has fused.

We think she will always limp but that hopefully we have stopped the degradation of the spine. We’ll know more after the scan.

The dog mattress is here to stay for a while! 😬😂

On the whole, she loved going to physio, being centre of attention and showing how well she could do her exercises. Back home, she wasn’t as miserable as she looks here 😉

Morning. If you can, head to @slaughterhouse_survivors and see the 75 dogs they’ve just rescued from a horrendous breeding facility. Pups of all kinds, needing care, treatment and love - like Jefferson here ❤️

I’m sharing because it puts everything into perspective for me, waking up on a Monday morning.

There are so many beautiful souls that need help, and saying thank you to the guys there for what they are doing just doesn’t seem to say enough.

Hayley (who founded the rescue) didn’t have to dedicate her life to doing this. it’s so tough - emotionally and financially exhausting. Just from the short amount of time I spent in China many years ago, I know how brave you’ve got to be to walk into these places and negotiate the safe release of these poor dogs, let alone what comes next and the cost of getting them healthy, but these guys never leave a dog behind ❤️

Then, they sometimes get crap from people commenting on their posts. They do too much, take on too much, don’t do enough!! Honestly, it’s hard to believe what some people are even thinking from behind their safe keyboards, miles away. Of course, there’s massive support for them too ❤️

Hayley, Summer and team - you are total warriors. I don’t admire many people, but I do wholeheartedly admire, respect and support you. Always.

Thank you for everything you do (even though saying thank you will never be enough).

Such a lovely birthday yesterday. Thank you so much for your birthday wishes ❤️

Our red-themed kitchen disco and treasure hunt was ace! 😊 G put together an awesome clue trail with some little presents along the way, and beautiful cards of petal, fawn, iz, flower and Hopey ❤️ Izzy was very good at finding the clues!

I also discovered that literally the only thing I can answer pub quiz questions about is music (largely 80s or Eurovision 😂) and that a sparkly cape makes the world a much brighter place! 🎉

Older, no wiser, but possibly smilier!! 😊 🎉

It’s hard to describe the horror the team sees and gets dogs away from. They need our help, so if you have a pound to spare and you would like to, please send it their way.

I can’t praise the team enough for what they do, day in day out. You’ve got to be a bleeping brave person to do it and my respect and heart goes out to them and the dogs 💛

Such a tough time in rescue everywhere at the moment. Rescues are full to bursting with unwanted, beautiful animals. It’s heartbreaking to be honest. I look at our three and wouldn’t ever be without them. If it wasn’t for @lurcher_sos and @slaughterhouse_survivors, they wouldn’t be alive, and I can’t thank these guys enough for everything they do 💛

Happy Friday from Fawnie. Our beautiful, gentle, nervous girl has been with us for just over two years now.

There’s a lot that still makes her jump and I don’t like to think about what must have happened to her before she came to us.

Anyway, I do like to think she’s sniffing the air and enjoying the surroundings in this photo (or possibly doing dog yoga!) rather than thinking “there’s a hell of a lot to do in this garden, humans!” 😂

Our beautiful Petal is 9 today 💜

She has a ‘special award’ for her birthday and for her recent bravery. She got very excited when we pinned it to her harness! 😊

She’s not allowed toys at the moment, but she’ll have lots when she can. In the meantime, she’s had salmon, rice & peas for tea and lots of fuss!

Petal was born in rescue into the care of @mswscatt and @lurchersos and we were so lucky to adopt her at 13 weeks.

For the past 9 years, I've regularly visited Ham Wall Nature Reserve and the surrounding areas, to see the starling murmurations. Like many people, I'm a little bit obsessed! Have a read of the blog to discover more, and also listen to my adventure with nature photographer Carl Bovis as we saw hundreds of thousands of our feathered friends put on quite a display!
